Mother’s day is celebrated at different times of the year, the date is usually determined by the Easter date which also changes from year to year. Both dates are decided based on the lunar calendar.

Origin of Mother’s day celebration

Mother’s Day celebration usually comes up on fourth Sunday of the Lent establishing it as a church originated day.

Mother’s day originally means the day to visit the mother’s church.  Christians thereafter return back to their various homes to felicitate and offer prayers.

On the way back from the Mother’s Church, youngsters would pick flowers to give their mothers and that became SYMBOLIC towards the Americans fashion or way of celebrating mother’s  Day.

The United States hone their own celebration of mother’s day to celebrating mothers rather than the UK’s religious context.

When is Mother’s Day in Nigeria 2021?

In Nigeria, Mother’s Day is unofficial because unlike in many countries in which governments have formally recognized it, the government has little knowledge of it. At the core of the case is religious interest

However, in Nigeria, several organizations and companies have committed to the UK date of mother days. But others also enter the festivities in May because of the powerful effects of US goods throughout the region. Islam has little on Mother’s Day even though the religion fosters and preaches respect.

So it is very much likely when a Christian president makes a remark for Mother’s Day in the country, it may be misinterpreted as a biased declaration for Christianity.

Facebook has been Nigerians’ greatest force. Most are waking up and participating in the party of Facebook Update of Mother’s Day and also celebrating, for most Nigerians they hardly know there are two mothers day as chosen by different countries, so when they see the news whether in March or May then quickly pass the greetings around and circulate the news.
