Australia is currently home to the second tallest skyscraper in the world, but it’s not for long. The Eureka Tower stands at 297 meters tall and dominates the skyline of Melbourne city center.
It was designed by Denton Corker Marshall Architects (DCA) and built for Lend Lease Corporation as part of their Docklands redevelopment project which also saw the construction of Etihad Stadium, Crown Casino Complex, Southbank Promenade, and more recently Westfield Shopping Centre.
The nation has a new contender that soon surpassed all others. The Q1 Tower at Surfers paradise Reserve at 1058 feet is currently the new tallest structure in Australia, the building has 98 floors when completed in November 2005.

The Q1 Tower, Surfers Paradise
The Q1 Tower is the tallest building in Australia. It stands 322.5 meters and comprises 78 floors of residential apartments, with a hotel on the top two levels.
The skyscraper was designed by Kent Elliott, who also designed the Gold Coast Convention Centre located opposite to it, as well as many other buildings along Surfers Paradise’s famous Broadbeach oceanfront strip.
Construction started in 2002 and opened in November 2005 at a cost of 255 million US$.

Eureka Skydeck Tower, Australia
Eureka Tower is the tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere and the second tallest building in the whole of Australia.

The tower consists of 91 floors, with 296 apartments over 37 levels. The top two floors consist of a private penthouse suite (299 m) which includes three bedrooms and four bathrooms that can be rented on an exclusive basis from SkyHigh Management Services Pty Ltd.
The Eureka Skydeck Skyscraper, a 297.3 m skyscraper located in Southbank, Melbourne, completed on 11 October 2006 and officially opened to the public that day.
It’s home to many businesses including some of the wealthiest companies in Victoria such as Telstra Corporation Limited and Woodside Petroleum Ltd.
Aurora Melbourne Central, Australia
Aurora Melbourne Central is one of the tallest residential skyscrapers in Australia, measuring 270.5m tall and 92 storeys high.
The building was designed by Elenberg Fraser and includes a sky pool on level 79, which at 33 meters wide is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere (and one of only two such pools in the world).
Construction began on Aurora Melbourne Central Skyscraper in 2015 after a groundbreaking ceremony attended by then Premier Daniel Andrews, who described it as “a beacon for our times”.
The skyscraper topped out with construction complete on 28 July 2018 following 93 days of continual work from over 400 tradespeople.
It opened to residents on 15 February 2019 with a total of 92 floors and a total height of 270.5 meters (873 ft).

The Infinity Tower is a skyscraper in Brisbane, Australia. At 249 meters high and 74 floors, it was the tallest building in Brisbane until 1 William Street surpassed it in 2016. It contains 549 units of serviced apartments and residential apartments. The main contractor was Meriton, while construction started in 2009 and opened in 2013.
The tower was completed in 2014 and contains 81 floors of serviced apartments and residential apartments totaling 549 units.
