An account on his Wikipedia profile disclosed that he spent his childhood in Nigeria before he relocated to London with his family.

He has had an undying passion for acting since when he was young, and he has been taking on minor roles in drama since when he was in school.

He followed on his passion and got into Bristol Old Vic Theatre School,  to learn professional acting and filming business, at graduation in 1987 he got an opportunity to further his training with The Royal Shakespeare Company.

He started his professional acting career as far back as 1987 when he was featured in his debut movie Coming to America the same year. This landed him a lot of recognition and soon enough he was recognized as one of the biggest black actors in the world at that time.

He came into the spotlight after starring in the Starz television series Black Sails.  Another well-received performance from Hakeem is his portrayal as Colonel Ike Dubaku in the Fox TV series 24.

He met Donald Cheadle on the Set of Hotel Rwanda, He opened up his mind that he would love to be in America sone day and, generously,  Cheadle handed out his phone number tp Kae-Kazim and in 12 months he landed in  Los Angeles, and he was skeptical about putting the call through to him. He eventually decided to call him and asked that they meet for a Coffee.

The coffee invite was declined due to his hurting feet at that time, but he later got an invite to come to Cheadle’s house.

“It was lovely. I didn’t know him as a person, but he was gracious enough to invite me to his house to talk to me about what it was going to be for me as a black man coming into America. He even saw my showreel which must have been so painful. He was deeply gracious.”

It is quite possible that Cheadle can hardly remember this particular story, but for Hakeem, It is a memory that cannot fade away.  Working with A-list actors can be very terrifying but Cheadle was very welcoming and accommodating and he had a nice time working with him.
